JOB PROFILE: Field Networks and Computer Systems Administrator

JOB LOCATION:  Broomfield, Colorado (Northwest Parkway operations)

POSITION OVERVIEW:  This position is responsible for safeguarding the company’s data, information systems, and network infrastructure while supporting and maintaining roadside tolling technology. The role combines IT security, network administration, and field-based technical support to ensure secure, reliable, and continuous operations across enterprise systems and tolling environments.
Key responsibilities include maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of company systems through proactive monitoring for unauthorized access, unusual activity, and security threats. The role requires responding to alerts and vulnerabilities by researching and implementing appropriate configuration changes, applying patches, updating security controls and access permissions, and blocking verified threats. Timely corrective actions are required, along with clear reporting on security incidents and remediation efforts.
Additional responsibilities include configuring, testing, maintaining, and monitoring network infrastructure components such as switches, routers, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems. The position also conducts security audits, develops and maintains documentation for security standards and requirements, and provides training to staff on security policies and best practices.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Information Security & Network Administration
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of company data and systems through proactive monitoring for unauthorized access, unusual activity, and security threats.
  • Respond to alerts and vulnerabilities by researching, evaluating, and implementing appropriate configuration changes, patches, and updates in a timely manner.
  • Block verified threats and update security controls, permissions, and access lists as needed; provide reporting on security incidents and remediation efforts.
  • Implement and maintain IT security policies, controls, processes, procedures, tools, and technologies to protect applications, data, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and network infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery, data protection, and business continuity plans to safeguard systems against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Configure, test, deploy, and maintain encryption technologies (e.g., PGP, GPG, SSL, VPN, tokenization) to protect sensitive data in transit and at rest.
  • Configure, test, deploy, and maintain network infrastructure components, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Utilize security monitoring tools and services (e.g., SIEM, WAF, web and spam filters, network protocol analyzers, and vulnerability scanning tools) to support proactive monitoring, threat detection, and forensic analysis.
  • Perform routine security audits and network health checks, including daily review of logs from servers, routers, firewalls, IDS, and other security appliances.
  • Test, validate, and deploy system and security patches in accordance with internal policies and timelines.
  • Create, maintain, and update technical documentation, including security standards, procedures, and network diagrams.
  • Train employees on security policies, promote security awareness, and administer incident response exercises to address potential vulnerabilities and breaches.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal stakeholders and external vendors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide on-call support on a rotational basis, including evenings and weekends, to support production maintenance and respond to incidents.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Roadside Tolling Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of roadside tolling infrastructure including RFID antennas, toll tag readers, and surveillance cameras
  • Conduct field diagnostics and repairs on tolling equipment to ensure continuous operation and minimize service interruptions
  • Monitor tolling system performance remotely and coordinate on-site maintenance when physical intervention is required
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and equipment for tolling infrastructure
  • Document all maintenance activities, equipment failures, and corrective actions taken
  • Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs and equipment replacements
  • Ensure all roadside equipment meets operational standards and safety requirements
Operational Support
  • Provide rotational on-call support, including evenings and weekends for scheduled maintenance and emergency response.
  • Communicate professionally with users, managers, and vendors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Technical Qualifications
  • Experience with Windows servers, including Active Directory and disk configurations.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience with Windows-compatible hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment, and computer systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Experience in identifying complex problems and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate costs and benefits of alternative actions.
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to perform field work, including climbing ladders and working at heights.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in:
  • IT security administration
  • Network engineering or systems administration
  • Security monitoring and vulnerability management
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience configuring and maintaining firewalls, routers, and managed switches.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server environments, including Active Directory.
  • Experience with security tools such as SIEM, WAF, IDS/IPS/TCP and vulnerability scanning platforms preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic field equipment or infrastructure systems preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as Security+, Network+, CCNA, CISSP, or similar strongly preferred.
